Important Information about 2020 Summer Opportunities

Greetings from WBL Career Pathways. As you all know, distance learning will continue until the end of the academic school year. WBL Career Pathways and WBLAS continue to work around the clock to ensure students, families, and industry partners are safe and supported during these difficult times. As of today, WBL Career Pathways will be cancelling and/or altering our summer opportunities. You can access the letter HERE. As we continue to navigate uncharted waters, we are finding hope, compassion, and learning all over our community. Read on for more inspiration.

WBLAHS Graduates Working on the Frontlines

WBLAS and WBL Career Pathways appreciate the work and support of MN Department of Labor & Industry and the opportunities that Youth Skills Training has provided for our students. To date, 46 high school students have become Certified Nursing Assistants with the MN Nursing Assistant Registry. Not only does this experience put our students at the frontline in the healthcare industry, we are also seeing some of our CNA and WBLAHS graduates working full-time as essential employees. It is more important than ever that we continue to support youth and their career pathways, so they too can become a part of the solution. When we support our youth, they will support our community in return. Our current CNA students have applied at local organizations with provisional status to start work immediately to support their community, families, and their own career path.

Phyllica Dehoop is a 2019 WBLAHS Graduate who is currently working full-time as a CNA. She will be starting her Nursing Program at Rasmussen College in the Fall. “The CNA Program has helped me pursue my dream of becoming a Registered Nurse. Thank you!” Thank YOU Phyllica! We are so proud of you!

Are you Bilingual or Multilingual?

Minnesota offers the opportunity for students to earn Bilingual or Multilingual Seals for students who demonstrate proficiency in a language other than English. The Bilingual Seal also carries college credit to schools in the MNSCU system and recognition on your transcript. Click HERE to learn more about the Bilingual Seals program. This year we have the opportunity for students to take the test from home in the following languages: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Thai. If you have any questions or are interested in taking a test to earn a Bilingual Seal, please email robert.anderson@isd624.org with the language you would like to test in.

Success Story Fridays Provide Inspiration

The moment Distance Learning became a reality, WBLAHS Automotive Career Pathway Instructor, Derek Doescher got to work. As of March 31, Doescher has interviewed and aired 5 episodes of Success Story Fridays. Doescher began the project to motivate students to use their challenges to persevere and become stronger through these tough times. Thank you Seneca Little, Matt Cremona, Matt Smoyer, Stephanie Lopez, and Shug Emery for sharing your time and expertise with a twist of inspiration. To listen to the recordings, check out the WBL Career Pathways calendar HERE.
