Use of School District Logos in School Board Election Campaigns Not Allowed

Candidates for the School Board, including any incumbents, may not use the School District’s logos, videos, photographs, or other District images in materials promoting their candidacy. The School District’s logos are protected under federal and state copyright and trademark laws. District videos and images are also protected under these laws.

Additionally, videos and images of students and staff members are generally protected under state data privacy laws. Third persons, including school board candidates, may not use School District logos, videos, photos, or other images without the School District’s prior written consent, as documented in a formal agreement.

The School District cannot allow candidates to use its logos because doing so can create confusion about whether the School District endorses or is advocating for a particular candidate. Also, in some cases, the use of the District’s videos or images can violate state law. If you are using the School District’s logo or any District videos or images in any campaign materials, you will need to remove the District logo, videos, or images or stop using those materials.
