The White Bear Lake Area School District is pleased to announce that Dr. Marcellus Davis has been chosen to serve as the district’s Director of Equity and Engagement.
Davis has served in numerous racial educational equity roles in both K-12 education and higher education, including roles of urban education professor, cultural liaison, diversity and multiculturalism director, director of achievement and integration and American Indian Education, and interim director of a charter elementary school. He has served in leadership roles with Minnesota National Association of Multicultural Education (MN-NAME) and has taught in the Human Relations Department at St. Cloud State University.
“The experience and vision that Dr. Davis brings to White Bear Lake Area Schools will help move all of our students forward in their learning,” said Superintendent Dr. Wayne Kazmierczak. “We are well poised with the work we have already done in laying a strong foundation. I am excited to see what we will be able to accomplish with his oversight in this important role.”
Currently serving as a program manager at Equity Alliance Minnesota, Davis provides executive coaching, professional development and innovative thinking toward transforming educational systems with racial equity at the core. Davis is also a co-founder of Community Minded Educators LLC.
"I'm honored to be able to serve White Bear Lake Area Schools in creating an equitable environment for all students,” said Davis. “Our students are the seeds, and it's our job as educators and community members to provide the sun rays, water, and cultivate the soil for their growth.”
Dr. Davis will start in White Bear Lake Area Schools on July 1, 2020.
