WBLAS recently received the Government Finance Officers Association’s (GFOA) Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. The district also received the Excellence in Financial Reporting Award from the Association of School Business Officials (ASBO). These awards are the highest form of recognition a governmental agency can receive and represent a significant accomplishment for the finance department and its staff. This year’s recognition marks the 23rd consecutive year the district has received both awards.

District leaders accompanied a team from Wold Architects and Engineers, the firm that designed the majority of the district’s construction projects made possible by the community’s support of the 2019 bond referendum, to present at the EDspaces “Designing the Future of Education” national conference. The annual event is described as the place where leaders and innovators unite to drive the future of learning environments, where technology, space and pedagogy converge.

White Bear Lake Area High School has been named a Silver member of the 2023 AP School Honor Roll, which recognizes schools for an AP program that is delivering results and broadening access for students. Schools can earn the Honor Roll recognition annually based on their ability to increase their school’s college-going culture, provide opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximize college readiness.

School and district leaders recently took part in a groundbreaking ceremony at Central Middle School to celebrate the start of construction on the Phase 1 additions happening at the school. When completed in late summer of 2025, the Central projects will include a new gym and fitness area, expanded kitchen and cafeteria, and the renovation of the current District Center to create additional classroom spaces.

As we prepare for the 2023-24 academic year, the following administrative changes will be in place starting July 1, 2023:

  • Current WBLAHS - South Campus Associate Principal Carrie Barth will serve a one-year assignment as WBLAHS - North Campus principal.

  • Dion Harriman and Joe Held will continue serving in associate principal roles.

WBLAS is excited to announce administrative changes that are taking place this summer and will be in effect for the start of the 2023-24 school year. Cynthia Mueller will serve as a full-time Principal on Special Assignment and Current WBLAHS - North Campus principal Ang Nelson will move into the principal role at Otter Lake Elementary.

The White Bear Lake Area School District is pleased to announce that Julian Stanke has been chosen as the future principal of Birch Lake Elementary, a position that opened when current principal Jonathan Luknic announced he would resign at the end of the current school year. Stanke will begin his role at Birch on July 1, 2023.
