Hands-on Learning

Eighth graders at Mariner Middle School enjoyed hands-on activities with local automotive industry partners New Trax, Minnesota State Transportation Center of Excellence and the U.S. Army. During the Transportation Career Fair, students learned how to change a tire, used virtual reality to paint a car hood, explored a U.S. Army humvee, tried different driving simulators and more! Check out their exciting day in a recent video issue of "The Week in 62.4 Seconds". At the high school, students in the Automotive Career Pathway program had the opportunity to work on U.S. Army humvee in their shop.

Fourth graders at Lincoln channeled their inner architect to make castles. Their lesson was captured in this video issue of "The Week in 62.4 Seconds". They built their structures in their makerspace using various materials from cardboard to tissue paper. Students have been studying castles as part of their Middle Ages Unit, discovering they were built with high walls and moats to protect people from invaders.

Central Middle School math students conducted a Dino Drop experiment. Using their math skills of linear relationships - students were able to predict how many rubber bands they would need to have a successful bungee jump.

Exciting Lessons

Sixth grade Minnesota History students worked in the new makerspace at Central to design their own petroglyphs. They learned about the ancient carvings here in Minnesota and the people who created them. The project included making the rock, painting the rock and then carving authentic Native American symbols as the people did thousands of years ago. See their project come to life in a recent video issue of "The Week in 62.4 Seconds".
