Bears in Motion

Oneka Elementary students were on the move last week! Students and staff had so much fun tracking their laps completed around the gym for the school's Glow Run fundraiser. During their time in the gym, students listened to music, played games and competed in different walking and running races, and where cheered on by their family and friends! Get a glimpse at the excitement in this video.

Orders are up and running at School Grounds! The student-run coffee shop, which is a part of the high school’s Culinary Arts Career Pathway program, opened at the high school. The opening event was captured in a recent video issue of "The Week in 62.4 Seconds". Students and staff members are able to enjoy a cup of joe while students behind the counter learn customer service, sanitation procedures and business practices.

In an eighth grade FACS class at Mariner Middle School, students made mug cakes! Their lesson was highlighted in a recent video issue of "The Week in 62.4 Seconds". Students practiced following a recipe, identifying and measuring the different ingredients, working as a team, and applying proper sanitation procedures when cleaning up. Students had fun learning how to make this dessert and are excited to try to make at home!

Lincoln Elementary third graders walked into their classroom to find it had been transformed into an operating room! Students celebrated the end of their human body-surgical unit by becoming surgeons for the day. Their lesson, captured in this video, showed how students moved through different operating areas reviewing the six body systems they studied.

North Star Elementary kindergartners celebrated autumn with pumpkin exploration activities in their makerspace room. Students and staff measured different sized pumpkins, compared pumpkins to gourds, explored what the inside of a pumpkin looks like and predicted whether certain items would float in buckets of water.

Community Involvement

Dr. Kazmierczak hosted Middle School and High School Student Advisory groups at WBLAHS. Snippets of their session was captured in this video. During the lunchtime meetings, students participated in a taste-testing activity and had discussions about next year’s schedule and Homecoming 2024. They also talked about what lifelong learning means to them. The groups meet with Dr. K and other district leaders periodically throughout the year.

Families attended a session to learn about an Elementary Spanish Dual Immersion Program prior to the recommendation going to the School Board at the October Work Session last week. The informational meeting was highlighted in this video issue of "The Week in 62.4 Seconds". The recommendation, which was passed by the school board, calls for Spanish Dual Immersion kindergarten to be available for district students starting with the 2025-26 school year. Additional information about the program can be found at isd624.org/immersion, where families can find information in a short video and a Q&A. They can also complete a form to make sure they receive the kindergarten enrollment mailing that will arrive in homes in December.

The High School Student Council is helping those in need through their annual food drive. Students are stepping up as first hour classes competed to see who can bring in the most donations! The event was highlighted in a recent video issue of "The Week in 62.4 Seconds". Extra points were earned through various challenges and participating in the themed dress-up days. Everything collected will be donated to the White Bear Lake Area Food Shelf.

In The Spotlight

Three members of the WBLAHS Girls Soccer team - Becca Smith, Jenna Maloy and Abby O'Brien - were named 1st Team All State at the State Soccer Banquet this week. The White Bear Press highlighted the event. Jenna was also named Ms. Soccer for Class AAA and the Pioneer Press' East Metro Girls Soccer Player of the year. On the boys soccer team, Ben Watson was named 1st Team All State.

The WBLAHS Girls Cross Country team took home the Section 4AAA Championship! They ran as a team at this past weekend's State Meet hosted at the University of Minnesota Golf Course where they finished 13th. Find highlights here. The Boys' team finished third at Sections with four runners qualifying for State. Read more here.  At the State meet, senior Vaughn Larson placed 13th and junior Max Popp was 23rd both earning all-state honors.

The WBLAHS Girls' Swim and Dive team wrapped up conference play with a home win over Park High School. To celebrate the end of their regular season, the team took an underwater photo! This past weekend, members of the team competed at JV Champions where the team finished fourth. The varsity squad is now gearing up for Sections happening Nov. 7-9 at Stillwater Middle School.

The WBLAHS Mountain Bike Team was recently highlighted in the White Bear Press. The team's captains and coaches were interviewed as they discussed successes from the season. Five members of the team finished in the top 25 at the State meet. Read their full interviews and find additional highlights from the meet here

WBLAHS student Andrew Mailer was recently named as a 2024 Bassmaster High School All-State Fishing Team Member, an honor given to students based on their success in bass tournament competition, academic achievement and leadership in conservation and community service.  Activities Updates

Winter Sports Registration is open! Find information here. The Mountain Biking Team wrapped up their season with five team members placing in the top 25 at State. Find additional details here. The Girls Swim and Dive Team wrapped up conference play by defeating Park High School 107-99. Read more here. One member of the Boys Soccer Team and three members of the Girls Soccer Team were named All- State First Team. Learn more here. The Girls Cross Country Team were Section Champions and competed at the State meet this week. Find additional highlights from Sections here. Four members of the Boys Cross Country Team qualified for State after the team finished third at Sections. Read more here. The WBLAHS Fall Musical, a production of "Legally Blonde The Musical," takes center stage November 15-16 and 21-23. Find ticket information here. Quarter-Century of Finance Awards for White Bear Lake Area Schools

White Bear Lake Area Schools has once again earned top honors for financial reporting, marking the 25th consecutive year the district has received both the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting and the Association of School Business Officials (ASBO) Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting.

At the September Regular School Board Meeting, the School Board welcomed the 2025-26 School Board Student Representatives: WBLAHS senior Thomas Reese and Alternate Student Representative WBLAHS junior Lillian Johnson.

School Board meetings at Sunrise Park

District staff, students, community members and board members enjoyed the first School Board meeting in the new board meeting location, the Community Room, at Sunrise Park District Service Center on March 3.

School Board Oath of Office

At the January 13, 2025 Regular Meeting of the School Board, the Oath of Office was administered by Superintendent Kazmierczak to newly elected School Board members Angela Thompson, Scott Arcand, and Dan Skaar.

2026 WBLAE Teacher of the Year nominations open

It's time once again to celebrate professional excellence as part of the White Bear Lake Area Educators’ Teacher of the Year program. The process begins with nominations from community members, parents, students and colleagues. Please take the time to nominate an exceptional teacher who goes above and beyond and who makes White Bear Lake Area Schools a great place to send our students every day.

Nominations are open until 4 p.m. on Monday, February 9th, 2026.

Building Our Future Update 2025 video shared

A Building Our Future Update 2024 video was recently created and shared out on the district's website. This sixth annual update video provides an overview of progress that has been made across the district since the comprehensive facilities review and planning work began in 2018 and the community supported the Building Our Future Bond Referendum in 2019.

"Cinderella" receives Spotlight accolades

The high school’s fall musical, “Cinderella,” recently heard word that they received multiple accolades through the Hennepin Arts Spotlight Awards program. As part of that recognition, the cast and members of the crew and pit orchestra will have the opportunity to perform on the State Theatre stage in June.

WBLAHS Field House Walking Track Open

The WBLAHS Field House walking track is now open for the season! Community members can walk the indoor track (for free) from 6-9 p.m. each week Monday-Thursday.

FREE Senior Activity Pass

Senior community members (age 65+) who live in the District are invited to participate in the Senior Activities Pass program.
