The district recently received the Government Finance Officers Association’s (GFOA) Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. The district also recently received the Excellence in Financial Reporting Award from the Association of School Business Officials (ASBO). These two awards are the highest form of recognition a governmental agency can receive and represent a significant accomplishment for the finance department and its staff. This year’s recognition marks the 22nd consecutive year the district has received both awards.
It's time once again to celebrate professional excellence as part of the White Bear Lake Area Educators’ Teacher of the Year program. The process begins with nominations from community members, parents, students and colleagues. Nominations close at 4 p.m. on Feb. 10.
Two upcoming Two Hour Late Starts that had originally been scheduled to take place for students in grades 6-12+ on Feb. 15 and May 17 have been changed to regular school days.

Due to glare ice road conditions, White Bear Lake Area Schools will start 2 hours late today, Wednesday, Jan. 11. The Extended Day program will be open 2 hours late. All morning Early Childhood classes are canceled.
Don Bosch, who began in the district in 2009 when he was named principal at North Campus and moved into his current role as principal at South Campus in 2017, recently announced that he will be retiring after the 2023-24 school year. He had been named in 2020 to be the principal of the unified high school to begin in 2024.
The unified high school principal employment search will begin in mid-January.

The 2022 Annual Update is currently available on the website. Print versions of the report will be available in January. The Annual Update information is also included in the Bear’s Bulletin flip-book portion of the Winter Community Services Catalog that will be shared electronically with the community soon.
The White Bear Lake Area School District is pleased to announce that Brenton Shavers has been chosen to serve as the district’s Director of Educational Equity and Achievement. He will begin his new role on Monday, November 28th.
Upcoming 2022-23 “Coffee with Dr. K” events:
- Feb. 8, 2023 from 12-1 p.m.
- May 2, 2023 from 4-5 p.m.
District leaders recently took part in a groundbreaking ceremony at Oneka Elementary to celebrate classroom additions happening at the school. The project is part of the district-wide comprehensive facilities plan that was made possible through the community’s support of the 2019 bond referendum.
The spring Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment (MCA) test results were released this week. White Bear Lake Area Schools’ average proficiency rates remained above the State rates in Reading and Math for Spring 2022.
At the August 8, 2022 School Board meeting, the Board heard an update of the District's Strategic Planning process and approved four updated strategies.
Senior community members (age 65+) who live in the District are invited to participate in the Senior Activities Pass program and enjoy complimentary admission to school activities.
A revised 2022-23 Academic Calendar was approved at the July 11, 2022 School Board meeting.
