School Board acts on appointments

White Bear Lake, Minn. - The White Bear Lake Area School Board approved the contracts for two administrative positions that are opening in July due to district retirements.

Director of Student Support Services

The White Bear Lake Area School District is pleased to announce the selection of Lisa Ouren as Director of Student Support Services. Ms. Ouren will begin her employment on July 1, 2018 when current Director Kathleen Daniels retires. The School Board approved the contract at the May 14 School Board meeting.

Lisa has served in a student support services supervisor role in the White Bear Lake Area Schools since 2014, overseeing special education programming at elementary, middle school and high school levels. She has led paraprofessional staff development and has overseen various state-mandated programs and procedures.

Before joining White Bear, Lisa served in a special education role in the Centennial School District for 17 years and gained experience in programming for students from birth through age 21. She began her career as a lead general education teacher, has served as an adjunct professor, and was on a humanitarian sojourn in India early in her career.

"While we will miss Director Kathleen Daniels' leadership upon her retirement, I am excited for Lisa to serve in her new expanded role in the district," said superintendent Dr. Wayne Kazmierczak. "Lisa has served White Bear Lake Area Schools students and families with empathy for four years and has a wide variety of experiences that have prepared her well for this next phase of her career."

WBLAHS - South Campus Associate Principal

The White Bear Lake Area School District is pleased to announce the selection of Matt Young as an associate principal at White Bear Lake Area High School - South Campus. Mr. Young will begin his employment on July 1, 2018 when current AP Brian Leonard retires. The School Board approved Young's contract at the May 14 School Board meeting.

Matt has served in a variety of positions within high school and middle school settings, with experience as an administrator, engineering specialist and science teacher in three different districts. He began his career teaching at White Bear Lake Area High School - North Campus.

Before coming back to White Bear, Matt served most recently as dean of students at Chippewa Middle School in the Mounds View School District, providing professional development for staff and working closely with students and families. Prior to Mounds View, Matt was an engineering specialist in Mahtomedi Public Schools, where his role included curriculum development and management of a fabrication lab (Fab Lab) that was created during his time in the district.

"We are excited to welcome Matt Young back to White Bear," said South Campus Principal Don Bosch. "Matt has provided exceptional leadership as both a teacher and dean of students during his previous time in White Bear Lake, Mahtomedi and Mounds View school districts. While we will miss Brian Leonard's leadership upon his retirement, we look forward to Matt joining the South Campus team."
