Students in the Transition Education Center (TEC) are open for business with their Bear Boards and More initiative. District staff and community members are invited to check out opportunities to purchase cutting boards and tumblers that have been hand-made made by TEC students themselves. The district’s most recent four-year graduation rate, released today by the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE), shows White Bear Lake Area Schools topping the state’s graduation rate by 5.7 percentage points, with 89.0% of 2023 seniors earning their diploma within four years.
The 2023 graduation rate at White Bear Lake Area High School - South Campus, which does not include students from the district’s Area Learning Center (ALC) or Transition Education Center (TEC) programs, is 94%. The Area Learning Center’s graduation rate of 73% is the highest ALC rate in the area. This most recent ALC rate is an increase of 9 percentage points over 2022 and 22 percentage points since 2021.
If winter weather is so severe that schools need to close, families will be alerted via phone, email and text to those who have opted in to receiving texts from the district. (Instructions for opt-in here.) The message will be posted on the district's website and social media accounts, and the information will also be available on local media outlets.
Jim Galvin, long-time coach, teacher, and community member, has been honored by White Bear Lake Area Schools for his decades of service to the school community. The White Bear Lake Area School Board voted at its March 4, 2024 meeting to name the fully renovated White Bear Lake Area High School gymnasium “Galvin Court.”
There has been a change to the last week of school schedule for students at the middle school and high school levels. The schedule has been modified due to construction schedules and building moves.
Students at the district’s Transition Education Center participated in a hands-on activity this week. This informative and creative lesson was highlighted in a recent video issue of "The Week in 62.4 Seconds".
The White Bear Lake Area Educational Foundation hosted a fundraising breakfast in the White Bear Lake Area High School Union area. After enjoying a breakfast together and hearing district staff members describe ways the Foundation’s support has impacted various district programs and classrooms, attendees enjoyed tours of the completed portions of the building.
A Building Our Future Update 2023 video was recently created and shared out to the community. This fourth annual update video provides an overview of progress that has been made across the district since the comprehensive facilities review and planning work began in 2018 and the community supported the Building Our Future Bond Referendum in 2019.
At December’s Regular School Board Meeting, representatives from the Be SMART awareness campaign and local law enforcement leaders presented information about a program developed to bring together parents and all adults concerned about kids, guns, and safety. The White Bear Lake Police Department, the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and White Bear Lake Area Schools are teaming up to share an important message about proper gun storage and safety.
While parents and guardians are welcome to visit our schools at any time, there are several special opportunities in January for parents to learn more about our schools.
