Welcome

Sitting on the northwest side of the White Bear Lake Area School District, the Otter Lake Elementary family consists of about 590 students and a dedicated staff. OLE recognizes that each child is unique, and works to recognize and encourage the development of that uniqueness as suggested by the philosophy. This neighborhood school works hard to create a strong, positive bond between faculty, parents, students, and community. The result is a school with a comprehensive curriculum that meets the needs of its students.
All children have the right to develop academic, physical, emotional, and social skills, in a safe nurturing environment, which will assist them in becoming contributing members of our democratic society.

World Languages
Our students gain world languages experiences through our two Spanish teachers.  Each child in grades K-5 receives direct instruction in Spanish using the Total Physical Response method.  Our world language teachers use stories and acting to deliver new vocabulary and to reinforce concepts already learned.

Art and Music Enrichment
Parent-led art classes and art lessons offered through the White
Bear Center for the Arts introduce children to a wide variety of art
materials and concepts. Monthly Art lessons are given by our parent
volunteers along with one clay project each year. Music is provided
to all students taught by a music specialist. Check out our
WBL Strings Program that we also have at Otter Lake.

Water Safety Program
Second grade students attend swimming and water safety classes at
the YMCA.

Gifted and Talented Program
Primary Challenge Grades 1- 2 - Students are recommended for this
program based on their exceptional performance in the classroom
and readiness for advanced learning.
REACH Grades 3-5 - REACH provides opportunities for challenges
in the areas of literacy and mathematics. In addition to advanced
curriculum, REACH provides opportunities for affective lessons,
critical and creative thinking skills, and self-directed learning.
