Welcome!

One School - Two Campuses
We are one school, in two locations, serving the Hugo area community within the White Bear Lake School District. Hugo Elementary is home to Early Childhood, Kindergarten and First Grade. Oneka serves Grades 2 through 5.

Students
Together, Hugo and Oneka have approximately 900 students from diverse backgrounds. Our staff is committed to working together to encourage and challenge each student to reach their greatest potential.

Partnerships
We have many partnerships we are extremely proud of at Hugo and Oneka Elementary Schools.

As part of the Minnesota DNR School Forest Program, Oneka Elementary has designated nearly 30 acres that surround our school as the Oneka School Forest. Hugo and Oneka students have the unique opportunity to explore math, art, science, language arts and geography as it relates to this outdoor classroom while gaining knowledge and developing respect of our natural world.

Kyle, from the White Bear Center for the Arts, comes to our schools five times throughout the year to enrich our K-5 students by providing them a gateway to diverse art experiences.

The YMCA provides ALL of our 2nd graders with water safety classes. Those classes are taken at the White Bear Area YMCA.

Ashland Productions, located in the Maplewood Community Center, is dedicated to educating our students through the program called ACT (Ashland Collaborative Theatre). ACT! is an exciting artist-in-residence program at Oneka. This innovative program allows us to offer our students a one of a kind theatre arts program for low or no cost to our school. Ashland artistic staff work with students at school learning songs, dances and lines for a full youth production. Learning the show is only part of the fun. Students will also learn performance fundamentals and team work with interactive theatre improvisational games. Students top off the experience by showcasing their hard work with several performances for our school, family, friends and community with professional sets, costumes, lights and sound! Our students come away with improved poise, self-discipline and self-esteem skills that will help them at school and last for a life time!
