The mission of the White Bear Lake Area Schools Extended Day Program is to provide a safe, social, and positive environment for school-aged children.
Extended Day is the district's school age care program providing before and after school care and full-day programming on non-school days and in the summer. Elementary-age youth in the program are actively engaged in a structured environment to expand and develop their skills during their out of school time hours. Designed to meet the needs of all families, flexible scheduling including regular and drop-in contract options are available. Extended Day is offered at Birch, Lakeaires, Lincoln, Matoska, Oneka, Otter Lake, Vadnais and Willow Lake Elementary Schools and is open Monday-Friday, 6:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. Students who attend Hugo Elementary School are bused to and from the program at Oneka.
The program is youth-focused and choice based, giving children the opportunity to develop strong social skills and positive relationships with peers, increase literacy and math skills, participate in individual and group activities, and work on special projects. Program activities include health and fitness, service projects, arts and crafts, creative play, languages and literacy, cooking, science, and much more. In addition to this, off-site field trips and special events take place throughout the year.
Because every child has special and unique needs, we strive to work with families to create an atmosphere that encourages growth. The partnership between parents, child, school and staff is key to our success. To ensure quality and compliance our staff/student ratio is: 1 staff person per 12 Kindergartners; and 1 staff person per 15 children for grades 1-6.
Registration materials are available in the Community Services and Recreation Office at the White Bear Lake Area Schools District Center or online. Pre-registration is required for all participants. Registration deadlines are in place to ensure safety and adequate time to communicate with all staff. Please call Mary at 651-407-7511 with additional questions.
Parents may sign-up for the program any time throughout the school-year, but enrollment is on a space available basis. Detailed information about and registration materials for the upcoming School-Year program are generally available in January of the year prior.
